Mind Body Spirit

How to balance Mind-Body-Spirit in healing Covid PTSD

“One of the biggest impacts of Covid on society, apart from the obiovus danger and massive changes in ‘normal’, is that this pandemic is that stress and anxiety are off the charts

Have you been feeling it? I know I have.

We all have, to a certain extent, Covid PTSD which manifests itself in high stress and anxiety.

Which is why I keep ‘banging on’ about the importance of Mind-Body-Spirit Connection during a world pandemic cause Covid PTSD is not going away for a while and we need some tools to cope with it.

why bother with focusing on mind-body-spirit?

Mind-body-spirit means that our wellness comes not just from physical health, but from mental health and spiritual health as well.

To be “healthy,” we must pay attention to all three aspects of our nature.

The mind, body and spirit are the components that collectively define human existence.

When we don’t address our suffering in a holistic way, we’re missing the very connection that allows us to reach our true potential for wellness and vitality.

And as this lockdown season and slow opening continues we are slipping more and more into behaviours that are doing exactly that, missing the connection that allows us to be well.

I believe that now more than ever it is important to prioritise and foucs upon our mind body spirit more than ever before.

So how can you holistically  focus on balancing your  Mind- Body-Spirit healing right now ?

Well its all about prioritising, practicing tools and learning how to ride the waves…

Prioritising

By prioritising I don’t mean prioritise your tasks. I mean prioritise what is important to you in life. And recently when I was rehashing a time management workshop powerpoint I realised I already have the perfect tool to share with you that will help you do this! And it will take you 5 mins.

You may have heard of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. A motivational theory from psychology. Comprising a five-tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. Needs lower down in the hierarchy must be satisfied before individuals can attend to needs higher up.

As a person you have basic needs to be met, without which you cannot function. Eating and sleeping for example.

After which you have the needs of safety, love and belonging, esteem and self-actualization. All of these needs play into your roles in daily life. For example student, employee, daughter, friend, father, partner or any of the other hats that you wear.

All of these needs fight for your time during the day.

When you fall behind in work or are under pressure these secondary needs are often the first you drop and in extreme situations the primary biological needs also get dropped. Which in turn affects your mental and physical well being.

You can not prioritise everything. You have to learn to prioritise based on importance. Working on one priority at a time. Maslows pyramid is a generalised one. What you need to really know is what is important to prioritise for you, in your life.

And that is what you are going to do. Simply create your own Maslow (like the one below). Fill out each section with specfics for example in the relationships who is it you need to have contact with? What is it that gives you self esteem. Then you make sure you are fulling these needs throughout each week. This is what is important. EVERYTHING ELSE COMES SECOND

Practicing tools

Wether it’s spiritual connection tools, breathing excercisings for anxiety, positive affirmations for confidence you need to practice them. Especially the anxiety tools. Recently I had an anxiety attack, a bad one.And I couldn’t calm down. Mr T had to help. I teach anxiety tools FFS! And yet as I hadn’t been practicing them I could use them when I needed them… yep I felt like an idiot. Luckily Mr T was on hand to help out. So don’t just know the tools USE THEM.

Here is my favourite anxiety tool to help you both meditate and keep calm.

Ride the wave

As any surfer will tell you the key to riding that tide and coming back from a run of bad surfs,  is finding your balance. And Corona without a doubt has been a run of bad surfs and wipe outs.

And as surfers say you gotta ride the wave. Sometimes that means getting out of the water and off the board when your balance is going wibbly wobbly. The only way to stop this wibbly wobbly feeling is to break the cycle, re center, re:root and find a point of balance.

We all have a point of balance. It’s different from person to person, but it’s there. Physically and emotionally. But how to find it? How do we learn to ride the wave?

A few years ago I wrote an article all about this and looking back the steps I explain there are super relelvant for the world right now.So rather than repeat myself I am going to put the link here and you can go check it out now!
