The Buck Moon – Spiritual Symbology & Celebrations

During July the hazy long days and short nights mean that the full moon is even more tantalising. The Buck moon is due to the male deer, known as a buck. By late July, the rack of a buck is forming into impressive antlers. It’s antlers won’t truly form until  mid-September, the velvety layer will shed and the buck will be ready for mating season. So unsurprisingly this moon has a masculine energy to it. It is a time of vigor and strength or at least strengthening. As well as ambition.

buck moon activites

  • Harvest your herbs – July’s moon is also known as the Wort moon to remind us that this is the time to begin harvesting our herbs for the winter.
  • Be present- Connect with your instincts and deconnect from distractions. Stimulate your senses by being still in nature, allow your self to be free to be spontaneous and play.
  •  Have an adventure – I love to make memory days where we go out on adventures to explore new places, with a picnic or a sketch book these can become magical reflection times and beautiful memories!
  • Check in with your goals – You may have made goals at the beginning of the year or like me at the beginning of the spring, but when did you last check in with them? Now is the perfect time to re connect with your goals. Check they are truly what you want and aligned with where you are now and evaluated your progress.
  • Align with your divine masculine energy – you can do this through personal power affirmations, meditation and journeying with male archetypes.

full moon herbal bath salt
How to make: 1. Add herbs and salts to a food processor. Gently pulse until the herbs are chopped into small pieces.
2. Add the baking soda and pulse the mixture again.
3. Lace the macerated herbs and baking soda into a large bowl and stir in 1 cup of Epsom salts.
4. Thinly spread the herb and salt mixture onto a piece of parchment paper. The thickness should be around 1/4th of an inch.
5. Allow the salt to absorb moisture from the herbs for 24 to 48 hours. After that time, the fresh herbs will have all their moisture removed and infused into the Epsom salt.
You can speed up the drying process by stirring the mixture after 6 hours and spreading it out again.
5. Store the finished bath salts in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
6. On the full moon Charge the salts by placing under the full moon.7. Fill a small muslin bag or handkerchief with one-fourth to one-half a cup of salts for each bath soak and then have a lovely bath !

Wishing you powerful full moon blessings !
